Caring for an adult with intellectual or developmental disabilities often means balancing protection with independence. At Find Love Safely, we understand how complex that balance can be.
We partner with caregivers to support safe, respectful, and meaningful relationships — while keeping members at the center of their own experience.
Our Philosophy
Independence and support can coexist.
We believe adults with IDD deserve:
- Opportunities for friendship and love
- Clear information and education
- Respect for their autonomy
- Thoughtful safety measures
Caregivers play an important role, but our work is grounded in the belief that members are adults first. Our approach supports independence while ensuring caregivers are informed and involved in appropriate, agreed-upon ways.
How Caregivers Are Involved
Caregiver involvement looks different for every family. Depending on the program, caregivers may:
- Be included on key emails or updates
- Receive workshop summary emails (Essentials and Concierge)
- Support scheduling and logistics
- Help reinforce skills at home
Our goal is collaboration — not control.
Setting Expectations
To create the best experience for everyone, it's important to be clear about expectations. Clear expectations help everyone feel grounded and supported.
What we do
- Provide personalized matchmaking
- Offer education, coaching, and guidance
- Support members emotionally and socially
- Communicate clearly and respectfully
What we don't do
- Guarantee matches or timelines
- Act as therapists or crisis responders
- Override a member’s autonomy without cause
- Rush or force connections
When Extra Support is Helpful
Coaching as a resource, not a requirement.
Dating can bring up big feelings — excitement, disappointment, anxiety, and growth. Coaching sessions provide a supportive space for members to process experiences, practice skills, and build confidence.
Coaching is:
- Included monthly in the Concierge Program
- Available as an add-on for other programs
Many caregivers find coaching especially helpful during transitions or moments of uncertainty.
New City Thank-You
Supporting members early.
For families joining Find Love Safely in newly launched cities, we offer complimentary access to our live virtual coaching workshops for the first three months as a thank-you for joining early and helping us build a strong local community.
